In lecture we were taught about different kinds of Concept Art, we were then told to make a few different level concepts. Beneath are my concepts of levels, I decided to base my levels around an idea for a game I've had for many years. The game is set inside a dream and you play as a child who is trapped in said dream, in the game your goal is to escape the dream by exploring all the different dreamscapes you come across, you would access these dreamscapes through beds you find across the world. The first two images below are from the start of the game where you are told you are trapped and need to escape by the ghost of a child who was killed by the demon who has trapped you in the dream. The bedroom in the picture is what you believe to be your bedroom before you are told the truth by the ghost and have to escape
On the left is a level of a deserted island and the right is what I called the "Hidden Dwarven Kingdom", it is hidden underground inside of a giant mountain.
On the left is a scary forest where ghosts would reside and on the left is a floating forest in the sky where you would walk on clouds.
On the left is a cave which you would light up with the use of a lantern and the right is a water colour painting of the house from Coraline which I would base the house from the game on.
On the left is the house that would hold the bed that transports you to the scary forest and on the right is the true form of the demon who traps you in the dream.
This is the moodboard I made for my levels, I was inspired by dark fantasy and uncanny images that instinctively creep people out. I have images of games like "Little Nightmares" and "Psychonauts" and images drawn by the artists behind the movie "Coraline".
