In class we talked about genres and tropes in video games, below are three video game tropes that I thought of.
Paper's Please
-Resolution matches 1980s
-Takes place in Artotzka, an imaginary Country based off Estern Europe.
-Colour palette is very grey. Bright Reds.
-Communist propaganda inspirations and similarities.
-Budgeting to keep family fed and warm.
Little Inferno
The premise of Little Inferno is that you are a child who has recently been given the popular toy "Little Inferno", A chimney where you burn stuff to get money to burn more stuff.
The game does use genre trops in many of the products that you can buy, they are used for parody. The song that plays for the shop is similar to 1940s/1950s infomercials and matches the greyish/black and white tones of the games, especially in the end.
The game's premise influenced it's mechanics as the game says alot about consumerism, you cannot move from your place in front of the fireplace until your house burns down and when it does you are shown the dark truth that you were not the only one, and that the smoke from everybody burning things is the cause of the never ending winter and snow.
Dragon Quest
Tropes - The real villain being hidden. Villain being a servant to the real, stronger villain. Start the game and do a small quest before the plot starts.
