In class we were given the task of reading the first chapter of this book. In the first chapter the first question it asks the reader is "how do you become a games designer?" which it immediately answers by telling the reader that it's easy, the way to become a games designer is just to design gamesĀ and to start designing now. It tells you to tell yourself that you are a games designer and to blow away all thoughts that you need skills to become one. It tells the reader that failure is a key part of design and that you will fail over and over and over again and each failure takes you closer to a phenomenal game. Almost anything you can be good at can be useful to a games designer, a few examples are Animation, Anthropology, Architecture, Brainstorming, Creative Writing, Cinematography, Games, Engineering, Music, Psychology, History etc. Anything you can think of can be helpful in games design but the most important skill out there is listening, to listen to the team, audience, game, client and self, this is the most important skill.
