In class we learnt about the Hero's Journey, many fantasy and adventure films follow this structure which allows the creators to pick and choose specific moments in which their protagonists will succeed or fail. Story's such as The Lord of The Rings, Harry Potter and Star Wars follow this structure.
These Characters start of as a normal powerless civilian, no different from the rest of the population, but as the story progresses they grow and discover who they are and what they are meant to do.
